Someone may want to use creative commons in order to let others reuse their work more easily. Sometimes, creators don't want to keep approving requests for people to use their content, so creative commons is a perfect solution for them.
The idea is essentially to allow an author of copyrighted work to share their work in ways more open than traditional copyrights. Essentially Creative Commons is a way to license your work in a way that allows you to choose which descriptions you want to put on things like redistribution, derivative works, attributing the author... and if you want you can literally declare that your work is public domain.
After I did a quick search, I found a few great pictures, but none one creative commons (that would be free and not have copyright restrictions). I would try contacting the owner of the best picture you can find if you want to use it.
