With a gun permit can you carry your gun with you to another state?

No you cannot. I have a carry permit to carry in PA. However, if I were to carry it in NJ and got caught I would be in a world of trouble.

Actually, that is only partially correct. It is true that New Jersey doesn't recognize any other states' permits, however, almost every other state does. With a TN permit, I can carry legally in 38 or 39 states. Each state is different though. A state that recognizes Tennessee's permit may not recognize some other state's permit.

It depends on what you are talking about. If you have a gun carry permit, you can carry in some states besides your own (check handgunlaw.us). If you're talking about transptoring a gun from one state to another, you can transport a gun in any state. Federal transport laws require the gun to be unloaded and separate from the ammo. However, there are some exceptions, but only a very few such as New York City, and some city in Nevada, as a few states and a few cities have local restrictions.

ADDTIONAL INFORMATION: that statement is correct, however, if you have a gun permit, that permit is valid in at least some other states. For instance, the state of Tennessee recognizes permits from any state, so if you are visiting TN and have a permit from any other state, you can carry while you are here.

Another example, a Tennessee permit is valid in 38 or 39 other states, so I can carry legally in most U.S. states with my permit. However, you must abide by each individual state's laws while you are there. Example, in Tennessee, you can carry the gun openly or concealed IF you have a permit, and the permit only covers handguns. In other states, you may be required to carry concealed, or the permit may cover other weapons besides just handguns.
