no, you have the right to the kids just like she does. Until there has been a "legal separation" filed, she can not keep the kids from you. When legal separtions are filed, temporary custody paperwork is part of the deal. Basically, it states who get to keep the kids on a regular basis, and what visitation rights both parents have and have consented to. I'd get a lawyer before you make a move, she could always claim you kidnapped them if you just go and pick them up.
