well i was inintensive care and on a ventilator not that long ago. my parents and family were by my bedside most of them time i was sedated as i was fighting against the ventilator 'breathing out when the ventilator was breathing in' i could still hear my family talking and the doctors saying what they were doing to me which upset me as they were giving my injections and i couldn't respond as i had the breathing tube in my mouth and i was heavily sedated which paralysed my muscles so i couldn't move. after a few days i got weaned off the ventilator but found it hard to breathe so i got put back on it and i finally got taken off it on the next day but i still had to be on it at night. It wasn't that bad but it did upset me when i couldn't respond to my actions. When a person is on a ventilator can they walk around?

No. Â?People on ventilators are usually unconscious and in Intensive Care Units. Some people with diseases such as Myaesthenia Gravis reach a stage where their medication no longer works and their respiratory muscles stop working, so they could be on a ventilator at home and not unconscious. Â?But if their muscles are too weak for them to breathe, they certainly won't be walking around.
