An authoritative decree or direction usually set forth by a municipal regulation is referred to as an ordinance. This is a law or rule enacted by a local government, such as a city or town, to regulate activities within its jurisdiction. Ordinances cover a wide range of issues, including zoning, parking, noise, and public safety.
