Hester prynne was in prison for a few days
No body knows.
Her husband, Chillingworth, visits her in prison.
To face her consequences at the scaffold
She chose to stay in Boston
Chillingworth visits Hester in prison to confront her about her relationship with Dimmesdale and to assert his control over her. He wants to extract information from her and further manipulate the situation to seek revenge on Dimmesdale.
When Hester left prison, she had to look forward to a life of social rejection and isolation due to her scarlet letter marking her as an adulterer. She also had to navigate raising her daughter Pearl while facing judgment and condemnation from the Puritan community in which she lived. Despite these challenges, Hester found strength and resilience in her resolve to carve out a new life for herself and Pearl.
Hester and Pearl had been visiting Governor Bellingham's house, where they were discussing Pearl being taken away from Hester. On their way home, they stop at the scaffold where Hester was punished.
When Hester was released from prison she didn't run away to a different state because she feels that where she is, is her home and it is where she must stay. She also feels that she must stay and tolerate the punishment in the place where she committed it.
