Partly tradition, partly economics, and partly the firefighters desire it that way.
Traditionally, the travel time required many decades ago, loss of response during shift changes, etc. led to these long shifts or days "on the job." In addition, firefighting is a lifestyle, not just a job to pay rent. A calling if you will. There are many duties and events they attend. None of which could be done in a regular eight hour shift.
Economically, it is beneficial for communities to do it this way since it cuts down on the number of firefighters required to provide 24 hour response.
Finally, 24 hours on and 48 hours off (if that is the schedule- it varies) is attractive because, baring an emergency disaster, you know you will have two days off of every three. (or work just over two days a week for the same pay of someone else working five days a week)
Dalmatians work with firefighters.
because
When there is a fire.
There are about 4,500 firefighters in action and on reserve.
The work schedule of a firefighter will vary depending on if they are employed or are a volunteer. Volunteer firefighters do not usually have a set schedule. They usually come in when there is a fire. Employed firefighters typically work 24 hours on and then have 48 hours off.

No, Firefighters actually fight fires, and Police Officers fight crime. However! -In some municipalities (towns) in America, these professions are performed by people that are cross-trained. In fact, one town that I know of has their city employees trained as Police, Fire, AND Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs are ambulance-riding first-responders) that work three 24-hour shifts per week. So for the first eight hours of their shift, they are Police Officers. The second eight hours they are Firefighters, and the third eight hours of their shift, they are EMTs. Then they get 24 hours off.

i would guess they would work out and practice
Of course-firefighters and policeofficers.
Firefighters and Police can affect each other in many ways. They typically both work on a Wreck or Fire emergency.
Yes you can there is no law that prevent you from doing but if you work there you obviously need to do your part of the job and maybe during break times you can could work out there.
