Prefixes are added to the beginning of a word to change its meaning, while suffixes are added to the end of a word to modify its meaning. They help expand the vocabulary and convey nuances in language.
The base of a word, also known as the root, is the main part of the word that carries its core meaning and is left after all prefixes and suffixes are removed. It is the foundation upon which prefixes and suffixes are added to create new words or modify the meaning of the base word.
When combining word parts, start with a root word that gives the core meaning. Suffixes are added to the end of the root word to modify its meaning, while prefixes are added to the beginning to change the overall meaning of the word. Maintain the proper order of root word, prefix, and suffix to create a meaningful and grammatically correct word.
The root suffixes and prefixes together are called "affixes." Prefixes are attached at the beginning of a word, while suffixes are attached at the end to modify the meaning or create a new word. Affixes are essential in word formation and play a crucial role in understanding and constructing complex vocabulary.
The basic foundation of a medical term is the root word, which provides the fundamental meaning of the term. In addition to the root word, medical terms may also include prefixes (added to the beginning of the root word) and suffixes (added to the end of the root word) to modify or further specify its meaning. By understanding the root word and any prefixes or suffixes, one can better comprehend the overall meaning of a medical term.

There is always a base word to a word with prefixes or suffixs, for example in the word pre game, game is the base word, and pre is the prefix. Prefixes are always at the begging of a base word and suffixes are always at the end of a word. In the word treated, Ed isn't a word by itself, however treated is a word by itself, therefor treat is the base word, and ed is at the end so it is a suffix. I hope this helps :)
