I wrote a paper on Anglo saxon religion and was able to determine by their language that there was no concepts of redemption, salvation etc because those words didn't exist in their language. On the other side, if a culture has several words of phrases for war, then they were a warlike culture. It can be determined that it was important to them, because their language dedicated so many words and phrases to the topic.
