Try "Wei", pronounced like "way". Usually used to say hello, but can be construed as rude depending on the audience. I find Hong Kong people sometimes react negatively to it. When you want someones attention "Wei" away at them, and it means "Hey". You can use "Ni Hao" more politely, but it literally means "you good?" and is used as a greeting.

First of all it's spelled Chinese. Second of all, let's say we are having a conversation, and an Asian person walks by. No offense, but you could tell they are Asian because of their distinct characteristics, If you say, "Hey look at that Chinese guy," that would be considered racism, because you have absolutely no way of knowing if they are Chinese, even if they spoke Chinese. We say "Asian person" because we know that they definitely come from Asia.
