What is the importance of translation of foreign languages for students? I would say that translation skills are a basic part of language learning. If you don't understand what you are studying, I don't see how you could make any progress in acquiring a language. Obviously if you start to learn a language when you are very young, you wouldn't necessarily have translation skills per se, but that wouldn't stop you from understanding something in two or more languages.
