I wouldn't say lip smacking was exactly a side effect. It can definitely make your mouth dry and therefore feel like licking your lips, feeling around your mouth alot with your tongue. It is similar to doing cocaine - the dryness.
I've had my single male pet mouse for 4 mos. He is very healthy, plays, not restless. Can't explain HOW I know, but he makes these different sounds to talk I think. It sounds like loud lip smacking sometimes, other times like a sound you"d make is you make little bubble smacking noises w/your upper lip. These kinds of sounds are a good sign, I'M sure.
