The correct spelling of the explosive is "dynamite" (nitroglycerin suspended in a solid absorbent).

The word is widely misspelled, partly as a result of an interjection by actor/comedian Jimmy Walker on the 1970's TV series Good Times. Walker pronounced it "Dy-no-mite!".
