I believe it is important to know more than one language, because you can not rely on English alone. Going to other countries, they prefer it if you speak their language, as it shows you care. For instance, speaking English to a French person in France is frowned upon by most French. And same in Germany.
If you go to smaller countries with less common languages, like Finland and Finnish, then there is less of a chance that many people speak English or understand it, and so it is always best knowing at least the basics of some language that you think you will use alot in your life.
