There are many people who use sign language. # Deaf, hard of hearing and deafened people often use sign language in order to communicate with other people who share the same common language. If not, they can communicate through a person who knows the sign language and a majority language (e.g. English). # Hearing parents are teaching their babies sign language because it enhances their communication skills and decreases their frustration, especially at a time when they do not have the capability to speak. # Non-verbal people who are hearing may use sign language to communicate, especially when they have conditions that make them non-verbal.
Sign language is useful for communication for the deaf people but it is not just used with deaf people, but many parents use it to communicate with young children or babies to have more understanding of what they want. Deaf people cannot hear so they need another way of communication with the people around them and the only way to do that is using the hands through sign language. Sign Language is a hand motion for people who are deaf and have lost their voice. You should learn sign language if you know someone that is deaf or lost their voice.Sign language is still used, and speechless and deaf people use it to communicate.

Obviously! American Sign Language allowed deaf people to communicate with each and for any hearing people who knew sign language. Many of these hearing people would also become interpreters which allowed them to communicate to anyone easily. Of course they can still use pen and paper. ASL is the backbone of deaf culture and is a beautiful language with grammar, syntax, poetry, etc.

Peope who are deaf and have not heard, those who are without speak will use sign language to "speak" to those who can understand it. People trained to use the language and can hear act as interpretors/communicators between the signer and those who cannot sign.
