Aloha. The Hawai`ian language, ʻōlelo hawai`i ne, was almost eradicated when the US government made it illegal to speak it. Of course, this was a travesty. After 3 decades, in the mid to late 90s, organizations formed in Hawai`i to preserve the language. It has always been very popular in songs, mele hula, but is now enjoying a very strong comeback in the Hawai`ia islands. Of course, English is the main language.
