"Fire hose" is typically written as two words.
Firefighter is one word.
Hose A and Hose B.
Two words: fire station
150 ft
Firecrackers, or fireworks, are only one word.
hose, take away the c and one of the o's
For a vehicle to qualify as a fire engine it must have a water pump and a hose.
fire hose
That's kinda gonna depend on how long the hose is. Without doing any figuresor math at all, we're pretty sure that a one-foot-long piece of 2-1/2" hose willhold more water than a 100-foot-long piece. In fact, when we do some figures, we can tell you that it'll hold one gallon of waterin every 47.1 inch length of hose.
A fire hose is used to transfer water. It is generally connected to a pump (which is connected to a water source), and has a nozzle on the other end. When the valve to which the hose is connected is opened (with the pump running), water will flow down the length of the hose to the nozzle. The firefighter will direct the nozzle where he wishes the water to go, and will open the gate on the nozzle. As water sprays onto the fire, the firefighter will actively direct the stream or spray to most effectively extinguish the blaze. We also see fire hose used to connect two or more pieces of equipment. If a large fire requires a truck to apply water, the truck will set up close to the fire, and fire hose will be laid to an engine. This allows the engine , which is connected to a water source, to pump that water to the truck.
It's one word. It's a compound word made up of two smaller words. An airline (one word) is a company that runs airplanes. An air line (two words) is a flexible tube or hose attached to an air or oxygen source supplying air or oxygen to a person who is ill or under water. Airlines and air lines, of course, are the plural versions.
All else being equal, a 2-inch hose carries 4 times the volume as a 1-inch hose.
