Define "bad word". It originally just meant "of the common people", but has taken on the connotations of "rude, coarse" (which also originally just meant "common as opposed to aristocratic") and come to be regarded as insulting. However, while many people may take offense if it is applied to them, it's not a "bad word" in the sense of being profanity.
