The meninges are a set of three protective membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord. They help cushion and protect these vital organs from mechanical damage and provide a barrier against infection. Additionally, the meninges contain cerebrospinal fluid, which helps to support and nourish the brain and spinal cord.
