A prefix is an extra part of a word at the beginning of a word (un, as in unimportant). A suffix is an extra part of a word at the endof a word (ly, as in gently)
Suffix is an affix after the end of a word, Pre is before.

Girl(s)-the "s" is the suffix & makes plural

Clos(ed)-the "ed" is suffix & makes past tense.
