Luckily for you, this is actually one of the easiest and most simplistic ASL signs to learn. I will give an explanation in ASL terms, and then provide a link to video.
Note: This is the ASL conceptual sign for "HELLO", "HI", and "HOWDY" for you Southern folk. It does not mean the words "Hello", "Hi" or "Howdy", but actually has a closer transliteration to SALUTATIONS! If you want to specify the English word you are using you should finger-spell it. Do not use this to mean the slang "What's up!" or "Yo!" ASL has different signs for those two concepts. Also, do not use this sign for Goodbye. ASL has a different sign for that as well. This does not work like the sign for thank-you meaning both thank-you and you're welcome in some regions. This sign specifically refers to the status of an introduction, not for a departing.
How to make the sign: Place your dominant hand in a closed-finger open palm position, with the index finger touching your temple, slightly above your eyebrow, similar to the way a "Army recruit" may make a salute in the old black and white War Movies. Then move the hand forward three to four inches. Some people sign this with a slight downward arc, some people sign it straight-forward. Either way is fine, at least for now....
Here is the link to a video that shows a person signing it: [related links]
You may notice that there are two signs here and I give only a description of one. Why? Because the other is a common cultural sign, that you are already probably familiar with. ASL has adopted it, mainly because of association with the hearing population.
