They say that taokete is a Maori word for brother in law but I am aware that word comes from the Ngapuhinui tribe who reside north of Auckland in New Zealand but I am aware there are other words for different tribes. There is another word from the tribe of Tainui who reside from Manukau Harbour through to Mokau then on to Kawhia and over Lake Taupo and back up to Manukau. this word is used by most other tribes also. I believe that word is hunaunga not to be confused with hunaonga which is a son inlaw or daughter in law which may not be documented but is used widely amongst my family taught from the old school. There may be other words as the Maori language can be very diverse because of the differing tribes and their traditional dialects as opposed to contemporary content taught in Universities. when translating answers it is difficult to have one word answers because of language's diversity. What do others think?
