That depends on the Bundesland (Federal State). The earliest start of the school year 2010/2011 will be in Bremen, Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia (5th August) and the latest will be in Bavaria (14th September).
In most Federal States the summer holidays start at a different time each year, so naturally they also end at different dates each year. Therefore you can't pinpoint a specific date, but it's always in August or in the 1st half of October, usually at a Monday or Thursday.
