Shauni is a bastardised derivative of the name Shaun which is a mans name. What happened was that women started feminising what were basically male names by putting an "i" on the end of them, like Dani, Tomi, etc. They argued that it made the names sound phonetically feminine to the human ear. However, there is no law in the English language that says putting an "i" on the end of a name makes it sound more feminine. It is entirely of construct of the female mind. Many of the women were in the feminist movement - although this practise had been initiated by other women before the feminist movement in the 1970's. However, during the 1970's the feminists simply expanded this idea. These same women must be applauded as during the 1970's they did alot of work defending Black women from racist whites, following on from the civil rights movement in the 1960's -and most of these women were white themselves! So they were good people who defended the poor and oppressed.
