The language spoken In Australia is basically British English. As you move around Australia (and this is particularly noticeable to Australians ) one will note that there are changes in the accent of the people. However the written language apart from perhaps a few differences in spelling is basically the same as it is used anywhere else in the world. If you can only choose one, you'll probably find French more useful. French is a much more common first or second language, and is spoken in most of Africa, parts of North and South America, and some of Southeast Asia and the Middle East, besides being spoken in Europe.
