In French, reflexive verbs are used to state possession or to state that you are doi omething to yourself. In English, this is usually done with the words "myself" or "himself". Some example..... The word "levé" in French can have a few meanings depending on the context. It can mean "raised" or "lifted" as in "lever les mains" (raise your hands), or it can mean "standing up" as in "être levé" (to be up).
There are a few Caribbean islands that were once french owned however, through treaties and wars many of the said islands changed hands and became British. Examples of such islands are: Grenada, Dominica and St.Lucia. These islands still have places with french names for example: La Femme ( the Girl) Grenada and Vieux Forte St.Lucia.

The South had its one big commodity, cotton, which needed massed field-hands who had no need of skills or qualifications. It was suited to slavery.
