Why do you think the early people of the Americas spoke many different languages?

Because there was no radio or television back then. Children learn the language of their parents and those near them. There were no schools so the children were basically isolated within their tribe. Travel was restricted to walking or horseback so tribes generally did not interact. Isolated groups of people will develop different languages. They have no reason to use the same sounds as another isolated group.
