Because we use different tenses to talk about things that happen at different times.
For example we use present simple to talk about things we do again and again (habits) e.g
I get up at 7:00. I go to the bath room and then I get dressed. Then I have breakfast.
We use present continuous tense
- to talk about something that is happening now e.g
I am answering questions on wiki answers.
- to talk about something that will happen in the future e.g
I am working this afternoon. (now it is morning).
