Why is saying tribe bad?

Tribe is used in many ways, and most of the time it is not a bad word at all. It describes a kind of social grouping and an approach to understanding kinship among many historic and contemporary groups of indigenous peoples. But the word can be used in a derrogatory sense because it is often associated (wrongly) with ancient and sometimes primitive or unsophisticated development. Don't use this or any culturally charged word to insult or degrade anyone. If you do, you are only showing how primitive and unsophisticated you are.
