Of all Science Fiction authors, Robert A. Heinlein has received the most Hugos for Best Novel as well as the most nominations, with five wins (including one Retro Hugo) and eleven nominations.


Heinlein received four Hugo Awards for novels during his lifetime: Double Star, Starship Troopers, Stranger in a Strange Land, and The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. Four of his novels were nominated for Nebula Awards: Stranger in a Strange Land, Time Enough for Love, Friday, and Job: A Comedy of Justice.


"Retro" Hugos are awarded for works published in years that Hugos were not awarded. Heinlein received two Retro Hugo awards, for Farmer in the Sky and The Man Who Sold the Moon. Further, the film "Destination Moon," based on Heinlein's "Rocket Ship Galileo" received a Retro Hugo


The Science Fiction Writers of America named Heinlein its first Grand Master in 1974, presented in 1975.
