What is the problem in the tale of despereaux?

Okay, so this rat named Roscuro wants to see some light, so he goes to the kingdom. THen the princess sees him in the kitchen. The rat falls in the soup and scares the queen to death. Because of this, the king banned soup and rats from the kingdom. So Desperaux meets Princess Pea and she tells him the problem. It is sort of hard to explain. BUt the rat wanted to get revenge on Pea for giving him a look that said "Go back to the dungeon where you belong" So he tries to kill her. I can't say anymore. And PLEASE READ THE REAL BOOK, NOT THE NEW MOVIE ONE! It is so different than each other! I even improved this cuz the last answer was one from the movie. The rat isn't on a ship. Desperaux has no friends! I LOVE THIS BOOKKKKKKKK :) :)

In "The Tale of Despereaux," the main problem is Despereaux's desire to be brave and stand out in a world where mice are expected to be timid and conform to certain norms. He must overcome the expectations of those around him, as well as face dangers in order to pursue his dreams.
