Hah, depends on who you ask! But an independent observer would say that each breed has its own merits and qualities.
It's mostly based on your opinion but Bernese Mountain Dogs and Golden Retrievers are both gentle dogs and get along with children very well.
Yes, Bernese Mountain Dogs are recognised by the Canadian Kennel Club and are in the Working Dogs group.
Well you can go to a vet and have some tests done if your not that sure but I think you should know what kind of dog you have because you need to know what to expect from the dog like say you have a Newfoundland mix and the people tell you its a Bernese Mountain dog mix. Newfoundlands get bigger than Bernese Mountain dogs do!
Bernese Mountain dogs are known for it. (:
Yes, the Bernese Mountain Dog sheds more than average, hence they are not recommended as pets for those who are allergic to dogs or dislikes shedding.
Longhaired.
No, they are not great retrievers.
They LOVE squeeky toys!!!
A bernese Mountain dog is a pure bread dog. It's not "made up" of other kinds of dogs...
Both the Bernese Mountain dog and the Golden Retriever would make a great dog for a beginner. Bernese Mountain dogs tend to shed less but are slightly less social around strangers than the Golden. The Golden does require more trimming/clipping than the Bernese however they are easier to train and don't grow to be giant like the Bernese. Both of these dogs are just about equal so whichever one you choose is going to be determined by your own personal preference.
