Any dog can be a pain if you are not ready for them, not responsible for their needs, or don't take the time you need to with them.

That aside, Jack Russells are smart and energetic. This means that if they are not burning off all the energy they need to, they WILL think up another way to use it. Just their idea of fun, may not be your idea when they have to do it themselves. They are eager to please their owners, and are able to learn a lot of tricks with a little time spent. My brother's Jack Russell would roll over on his back with his tongue hanging out if you pointed your finger at him and said bang. They are the type of dog that you have to spend that kind of time with. They need the play and interaction. If you are able and willing to have a little best friend that you spend time with, then they are awesome dogs.
