this is a pretty easy question to answer yes because my friend has a pitull beagle mix i dont think beagles are that smart but the pitbull is one of the most intelligent dogs in the world i think thts were its intelligence comes from my friends dog is viscious though it bites your ankles until you kick it pr something.

It all comes down to training and how much time you put into it. The phrase 'Operator Error' comes to mind when reading the above comment. Most dog breeds are intelligent, both Beagles and Pit Bulls are very smart. Pit Bulls are very curious and can be headstrong. Beagles are eager to learn and great problem solvers but can get bored very easily. I own a Beagle/Jack Russell and he is having a play date with a Pitt/Beagle mix; they are both smart and a lot of fun. Remember, it's an investment in time and a luxury to own a dog. If you take the time to train your dog no matter the breed you will be amazed by what they give back.

Beagles are obedient with training. It takes lots of patience and consistency. I can walk my 5 yr old in-tact male in town around other dogs and people without a leash. They are like 3 yr old children. They Will constantly try the boundaries. Learn a cue "noise" that they respond well too. I.e. I snap my fingers but clickers work well too. It can also be a verbal cue. Such as "ahhh" (make it a harshish sound). And use praise and petting as your reward system. This way contact with you becomes "good" and they will come to you and try to please consistently. Hope this helps

No beagles aren't dumb!!!!!! They are one of the smartest dogs. If they know where there is food they usually find a way to climb up there and eat it!
