Are chihuahuas good with children

No Chihuahua's are not good pets for children. Because of their small size a chihuahua can be easily hurt or killed by a child. Chihuahua's also have very thin legs and often have problems with luxating pattela's. Chihuahua's also don't have the "love everyone" temperment" that a dog belonging to children should have. Chihuahua's bond closely with one individual...and they become very protective of that one individual. Most chihuahua's are very leary of small children, preferring to stay away from them.

Chihuahua's are not the best dogs for homes with small children. Chi's can at times be nervous, and around a small child that can become a problem. Because of the size of a chihuahua, children always see them as a cute little puppy. And while chihuahua's are cute, they don't usually like to be handled by just anyone. Children often come at them full force to want to pet and handle them, to a chi this can be very scary...and their only defenses are to run or bite. Most chi's only prefer to be handled by one or two people at most...they are extremely loyal to their owner, and if anyone else should come near them, they see it as a threat. Owners with small children also have to be careful that small children do no hurt their chi's. Children can very easily, while unintentionally, injure or kill a chi. It's the same with having larger dogs in the home, an owner of a chi must constantly think about it's safety and well being.
