Hyenas are a mammalian species- they have both genders. Hrmaphrodites could exist- as with humans- but as freaks, not normal offspring. It is no laughing matter, by the way. ( Hyenas linked with oohh oooh haa hahh stuff.)

While it is difficult to tell whether a hyena is male or female by visual inspection alone, the two sexes are different in hyenas. Hyenas are not hermaphrodites.

Some other ways of telling if a hyena is male or female:

If a hyena is suckling cubs, then that hyena is female.

If a hyena rules the clan, then that hyena is female.

If a hyena is bullied even by cubs, then that hyena is (probably) male.

If a hyena is not allowed onto the den where cubs are kept, than that hyena is (probably)male
