How is the duck billed platypuss different to other mammals?

Platypuses are members of the monotremes (also get placental mammals - us - and marsupial mammals - eg kangaroos). Monotremes are echnidnas and platypuses. Placental exchange nutrients with the mother via a placenta until birth, and marsupial are born very immature and then attach to a nipple in a pouch while they mature.
