No deer can not swim. Some people claim to see deer swimming but they are either standing on a rock out in the water or on an under water bridge that only deer know of. They can smell it underwater and like to walk on the bridge out to the middle of the pond or lake. They usually hide under water but are sometimes caught taking a breathe of air. There are websites that give false information saying "Although deer prefer to be on land, they can swim up 13 mph." That information is wrong. DEER CAN NOT SWIM.

Yes, as a matter-of-fact I have seen a deer swim across a fourth of a mile long cove at Grand Lake in Oklahoma. I would estimate the water to be at least 80 feet deep. It took about thirty minutes but the deer made it across with no problems at all.

Yes. I have watched many deer cross ponds-lakes-and once watched a large Buck swim across a very rapid river. Deer are found in the water so often that the Department of Natural Resources often post in the hunting regulations that it is against the law to shoot a deer while it is in the water.

deer can swim at their own will, but if they cant get out easily or panik, it could be fatal. i suppose you could say they are like horses tbh.
