No Maltese can not live outside they will become very sad and afraid. My Maltese was put outside all winter because, it was abused and we rescued it and is timid to go outside. (I am so happy we got a Maltese!)
What are Maltese used for? Maltese Dogs are tiny (7 pounds or under) companion dogs.
Yes. It might not like it as much as being an outside dog though.

If they are born there (or are naturalized citizens) they are Maltese.
They can live anywhere, If they live in a dog house, it has to be a pretty big doghouse! This depends on the amount of space you have. Some owners will allow their dogs to live indoors, others will let them stay outside in a doghouse. Additionally, some owners will allow their dog to have a doghouse in the backyard and spend time both in and out of the house. This is completely up to the owner and their housing situation.

If it is an outside dog, then yes it probably should have a doghouse or kennel. If inside, then I think they do not need their own special place to live.
A kennel can be used as a substitute house for a dog, for either outside or inside dogs. They are cheap and can be bought at any department store. However, an actual Doghouse is suggested if it stays outside a lot.
