If it were to happen at all, a more likely scenario would be that a pack of wolves would bring down the horse and then the bear would scare off the wolves and eat what's left of the horse.

It is possible for the horse since the horse can use its muscular hooves.

If a horse was truly intent on killing a bear, it would first try to knock it to the ground, most likely by kicking it while the bear was standing on it's hind legs. Then the horse would stomp on the bear's head until it either died or moved away.

I was elk hunting in Montana and saw a grizzly come down a ridge where some other hunter had tied his horse way to tight and strong to a blow-down tree. The grizzly with one blow of its paw broke the horse's neck. My partner was with me and we were guiding hunters back in the Scapegoat Wilderness area. Seeing the power of that animal sent chills up my back.
