If you are allergic to cats, then a cat scratch can cause your skin to swell and redden.

If you are not allergic to cats, then a cat scratch is harmless. I have been scratched 1,000's of times by domestic house cats and sometimes it hurts and draws blood, but I am still here. They heal up and go away.

Cats can be trained to not scratch you. When they are about 2-3 months old they like to play with their claws and dig into you. Just say, "ouch! ouch!" and they will stop. I have done it and it works.
