If they come across a dead elephant that isn't to rotten then of course there is no way a Cheetah or any other big cat would pass up a meal they didn't have to work for.

But as for Cheetah's running down and killing an Elephant? No, this does not occur.

It'd have to catch it first, then hope that there are no stronger predators (lions, hyenas, leopards) around to steal its kill.

no a cheetah will not even try to catch a giraffe as they are way to big and strong and with a meal that big it would easily attract predators from every where.
