I have heard of puppies who are seperated from their mothers at a young young age, but they are usually put on bottled puppy formula. If your puppies MUST be weened for health issues to the puppies or the mother, then you should put them on puppy formula until they are AT LEAST 6 weeks old, and then gradually ween them onto a puppy chow.

It's normally best that puppies be nursed by their mother until they are 8 weeks old.
