Yes, a fully engorged tick can fall off an animal and potentially attach to a human. Ticks are opportunistic feeders and may drop off their host when they are full. Once they detach, they can crawl onto nearby hosts, including humans, in search of a new place to feed. It’s important to regularly check pets for ticks and take precautions to reduce the risk of tick bites for both animals and humans.
Ticks are classified as arachnids, just like mites and spiders. They are parasites that attach themselves to other animals to feed on their blood.
To determine if a deer tick fell off a dog or a human, you can consider the tick's size and the host's environment. Deer ticks, or black-legged ticks, are typically small and may show signs of feeding. If you find a tick on a dog, it may have more fur or debris attached to it than one found on a human. Additionally, ticks tend to attach to areas with less hair on humans, such as the scalp or behind the ears, while on dogs, they may attach in more hidden areas like between toes or under the collar.

I actually have a little device that i went out to Petco and bought, that works really well for getting rid of ticks. if you don't have one, then i suggest you take a paper towel or a tissue, and grab the tick firmly by the head, the part closest to your animals skin, and rock it gently back and forth until the tick comes out. then immediately take a credit card, or other similar item, and squish the tick until it is dead, otherwise it will jsut attach itself to you or your animal.
yeah yeah yeahs : Tick
When a tick falls off a dog, it may detach after feeding to lay eggs or due to irritation. The tick can survive for several weeks without a host, potentially seeking another animal or human to attach to. It's crucial to check the dog for any remaining ticks and monitor for signs of tick-borne diseases, as some ticks can transmit pathogens before detaching. Proper removal and disposal of ticks are important to reduce the risk of disease transmission.
