No, the best time for cropping is usually between 8 - 12 weeks of age. Older than that is not recommended. It can cause scarring, crooked ears & infection.
However, it is not necessary to clip a Pit Bulls ears as it causes unnecessary pain for only cosmetic reasons.

It is possible to have ears cropped at 5 months, although the best time to do this is between 10-12 weeks of age. At 5 months the cartilage in the ears is more developed and will be much harder to get to stand. I have 2 dobermans a male and a female both with ears cropped at 10 weeks. They both have a medium to long cut, not quite as long as the show cut. With tapings every week, ears in tape for 4 days, without tape for a day or so, it still takes from 8-12 weeks for them to stand on their own. You must be patient and go to a vet that is experienced in cropping. Not all vets do this and consider it 'cosmetic' surgery. You must be willling to go the distance with this. Commit yourself to going to the vet every week - twice a week. If you are not willing to commit then I suggest you do not crop the ears. At 5 months of age your committment will be much more intense and take longer. And at this age really do your homework on selection of a vet to do it. There are like I said earlier few vets that crop and less that have experience with cropping at the age of your dog. I would select a vet with much experience with your select issues, and probably one that has done reconstruction on poorly cropped ears. My vet has this experience and would recommend him to anyone. I am very fortunate to have this vet in my area, whereas there are other owners that have to travel quite some distance to find a vet with good experience.
