prairie dogs eats with their hands
Prairie dogs lost much of their population because they ate crops that farmers grew. Consequently, they were killed, either by smoking them out of their burrows, shooting them, or having house pets hunt them down. After they became a much less populated species, people began to stop killing them so that they could repopulate. It is because prairie dogs are no longer killed that they have become more common. There is also less farmland than there was before, and farms are usually too large to keep all the prairie dogs under control. The species is now safe because they are no longer killed.
Well, of course they do, or else they wouldn't be called Prairie Dogs!
