It is spread only between cats through prolonged contact (ex: sharing food bowls). It is feline specific so not contageous to humans, dogs, and other species. If you have cats that are both FeLV+ and - in the same household, vaccinate the negative ones. But it is better to keep them separate to be on safe side. Vets say these cats live 6 months to 2 years, but I have one who's 5 now.

Yes. Like any animal, cats can get viruses (e.g. distemper), bacterial infections, cancer, or mechanical injuries (scratches, broken bones). They are particularly likely to get abscesses (pockets of pus under the skin) if they get a mechanical injury. And cats can, and do, vomit; it is one of the only ways they can clear hairballs, which they get when grooming themselves, but they will also vomit if they are suffering from gastrointestinal illness.
