Calves, as they grow older into cows or bulls (depending on the gender) will increase in body capacity and size, thicken in the legs, become broader across the skull and the muzzle, and, depending on selection for breeding, will appear to become longer in body. Bulls will grow more muscle and sprout a muscular crest on their necks, have thicker necks, broader foreheads and larger testicles. Heifers will grow an udder after they have given birth to their first calf, and become wider across the hips and barrel as they mature.
