Certainly not. This animal is the largest rodent on Earth, and not only consumes massive amounts of vegetation, but defecates frequently. Just cleaning up after this animal and feeding it would take a full-time job. Also, capybaras are social animals and would require a wide open space to live in. In the wild, capybara herds live on the African savanna. Also, the stink something wretched.

No, capybaras are wild animals. Very few people own a Capybara(s). Most people know about them from the zoo. They are tropical animals mostly from South Africa.

Capybaras are from South AMERICA, not South Africa. They are also very docile creatures so are quite suitable as pets, but the only downside is that they are difficult to find outside of South America, but they most certainly can be kept as pets and trained to be good ones as well.

I don't know how useful this will be, but I think I read somewhere about legally buying them for 500 (US dollars) but you have to buy them in pairs. I'm not sure if this still applies. Hope it will help, 'cause I'd love one! :)
