It can take a while for a chinchilla to adjust to a new owner. Chilnchillas are a prey animal. You can bond with them and interact with them from within their cage. Let them approach you however, do not reach in and "grab" them. If they climb onto your hand, then hold them. This time can be longer, depending on the chins particular personality, but two weeks should be a minimum.I know this is hard for new owners, however, it would be much harder if the chin were to end up dying due to the stress of his/her new environment.

Yes and no depending on how tame he/her is, femail chins tend to stand on there hine legs and spray you with urine where male tend to giveyou a warning nip this tells you they don't want to be handled...so be careful and let them adjust to their new environment and owner. hope this helps GoodLuck with you cute little chinchillax Love kelsey xx

Yes they can. They have very powerful sharp teeth (they can bite clean through a cuttlefish without any problems). Although they only tend to give a half hearted "nip" when they are not pleased and it doesn't break the skin (like someone pinching you). They will also "check" anything that is put near their mouth to see if they can eat it, this includes fingers, but again they usually realise that it's not edible so will let go with no harm done (unless it's a power/USB/Phone cable, which they happily destroy). They can attack and cause minor cuts but only when they are in fear for there life. Overall a pretty calm rodent.
